Jason’s practice focuses on patent litigation for industry-leading clients, managing all aspects of patent litigation cases from inception through trial, as well as ex parte and inter partes reexamination and inter partes review proceedings. His practice leverages his engineering background (with Intel, Medtronic and Motorola) to provide practical insight to clients when it comes to protecting their intellectual property. Jason’s practice primarily centers on patents for complex technologies, including Internet and wireless technologies, telecommunications, medical device, software, hardware and database systems. He has litigated before several district courts, the ITC and the PTAB for inter partes reviews.
Jason assists clients in protecting innovation from the origination of the idea, registration/protection of the innovation, licensing and monetization of the innovation, and enforcement of the innovation. This includes patentability opinions, freedom to operate studies, licensing agreements, development agreements, patent applications, trade secret protection, copyright and trademark registrations, distribution agreements, and channel-partnering agreements.
Jason also participates in the creation and negotiation of governance and licensing documents specially tailored to address complex issues surrounding patent, cloud computing services, cybersecurity, open source software, and cross-licensing issues.
Jason was formerly a partner at Kirkland & Ellis between 2010-2014 and at Dinsmore & Shohl between 2014-2017. He is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO, and earned an MBA from ASU, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, and a BS in Engineering Physics from Cornell University.
